Northern Tigers - Sydney Uni 1 - 4
-
-
To ytterligere mål kunne fort blitt til flere.
-
-

Kaptein Hoffs Match Report:

Students teach tigers a lesson
Posted by hoff at Sun, 2007-05-27 19:02 on
-
Sydney University gave the Northern Tigers a lesson in how to play football with a comprehensive 4-1 win at Mills Park.
-
Uni, coming off the back of a 2-0 win over Fraser Park, started strongly with Ed Noel giving the keeper no chance as his volley hit the roof of the net in the 2nd minute.
Uni extended their lead on the half hour mark with Jake Swarts the benefactor of a Greg Collins flick on. Swarts outmuscled his defender and then lobbed the advancing keeper to bring the crowd into hysterics.
However, it was the Tigers who have scored a league high 30 goals this year, who scored next. Uni paid the price for failing to clear a bouncing ball and Ryan Jones pounced to breathe life into his team.
The Northern Tigers lifted the tempo and Uni were forced to weather a storm up until half time.
-
After the break, the Tigers found themselves with the lions share of possession however they rarely penetrated the defence and failed to really trouble Uni custodian Anthony Costa.
The students caught their opposition on the counter attack several times and although going close were unable to extend their lead until the 87th minute when Pat Gavaghan rattled the net for his 3rd goal of the year.
-
The romp was complete a minute later when Uni livewire Mat Demetriou was able to disposses a unexpecting defender and then slid the ball past a helpless Tigers' keeper.
-
The win means that Uni join the Tigers in equal 3rd position as the log jam continues up the top of the table. Only 2 points separates the first 6 teams at the half way point of the season, with goal difference perhaps becoming increasingly important as the weeks go on.

- Super League: Runde 12

Sydney Uni - Frasier Park 2 - 0
-
-

Sydney Uni - Granville Rage 3-1
-
-
-
-

Uni spank Granville
-
While some club’s are praising their custodians, Granville Rage have advertised for a new one following a 1-3 defeat at the hands of Sydney University at Hensley Athletics Field on Saturday night.
-
Uni led the competition for seven weeks before a string of poor results saw them tumble outside of the top-five. But three goals in a half-hour stretch against Granville provided a much-needed morale boost. Matt Demetriou put Uni in front on the half-hour and a clever Greg Collins goal shortly afterwards made it 2-0 by half-time.
-
When William Thom stretched his team’s advantage with a third goal on 64 minutes, the Rage were cooked - despite Phil Pyliotis scoring a last-minute consolation goal.
-
-
-

-
Trenern får gi sitt referat:
-
Goal drought continues for Super League lads
-
Heartbreaking, is perhaps the understatement of the year, as a 92nd minute deflected goal cost us a deserved lead in the Super League title race.
-
The competition is so tight that the three points dropped keep us in 6th place as opposed to first if we did knock over Melita last Sunday.
-
Again it was a dominant performance from the boys. Some simple tactical changes saw us defend comfortably and attack with flair and purpose. Many of the crowd were applauding our play and at the same time booing their own for their lack of respect for the ball.
-
The half-time talk focussed on the positives and where we were going to break down Melita's defence, as a unit we were confident that the game was there for our taking, but as the previous weeks have shown, the soccer gods were not prepared to give us the goal, Greg Collins hit the crossbar, Ed Noel lashed a one on one over the bar and at the 90 minute mark, James Alcorn opened their defence up only to be denied by the keeper.
-
It is very hard to be critical of the lads as the work ethic is there and the football we display is exciting. At some point in this competition we will absolutely demolish a team by 5, 6, or 7 of that I am sure, and I hope you can all be there that day to cheer on the boys.
-
We play Granville Rage this Saturday night at Hensley Field and hopefully we can attract a big crowd and see us break this El Nino type drought.
-
See you Saturday night
-
Keep the faith!!

- Super League: Runde 8 OPPDATERT

-
Sydney Uni - Bonnyrigg 0-4
-
-
-
In a heartbeat Bonnyrigg sensation and Sydney FC trialist Jason Kencevski proved why he is hot properety by scoring a hat trick against us in a 10 minute period of the second half.
-
Plenty would argue that he should not have even been on the park after he nearly scalped our Norwegian defender Emil in the 18th minute of the first half. With blood streaming from a deep head gash Emil exited the arena to the applause of the Uni faithful.
-
Our boys defended well and opened up the Bonnyrigg defence on a number of occassions, but it seems our touch in front of goal has deserted us in recent weeks.
-
Bonnyrigg will certainly be the team to beat with basically a premier league line up taking the field each week. Injuries may test them down the track as the depth of their squad was exposed by our Under 20's who routed them 7-2, with many of those lads now pressing for 1st grade call up.
-
At the end of the day it was a 15-minute period in the 2nd half that cost us dearly and we struggled to recover.
I was very proud of the boys and they did stick to the task right to the end.
Our boys are very disappointed at the moment but I know we can bounce back next week against Melita.
I am looking forward to the Hoff's match report.
-
I was also very happy to see so many supporters and players attend the game. Hopefully you will all come back and watch our next home game ... we still have wine left!
-
Keep the faith
Glenn Lockhart
-
Kaptein Hoffs rapport:
-
The Bonnyrigg white eagles grabbed the super league lead after defeating previous leaders Sydney University at Oval Number 1. Bonnyrigg broke down Uni 4 times in a 15 minute window late in the second half to secure the 3 points and to leave uni on the edge of the top 5 in what is a crowded leaderboard.
-
The white eagles were put under some pressure early in the first half with Pat Gavaghan creating room down both flanks. However, aside from a diving header from Choc which grazed the near post, Uni couldn't capitalise on some early pressure with many shots.
-
Box head pulled off a rare White Eagles shot, with an easy save at the near post. However, during the incident it appeared that our Danish Import emil's head was stomped on several times by an opposition players and was knocked out. Whilst the linesman had an unobstructed view of the situation, he did not report the incident to the ref.
-
This meant a Uni reshuffle, with the Joker coming on to replace a blood drenched emil. It remained 0-0 until half time.
-
In the second half, Uni played a deeper counter attacking style, sitting back and trying to hurt their opposition on the break. With Ace and the greyhound both possessing an abundance of speed uni were getting into dangerous positions however failed to get the final ball when it mattered.
-
The tide turned however when bonnyrigg scored a goal from almost nothing. This led to a landslide where the sheer momentum of bonnyrigg was hard to stop. 4 Quick goals inside a 15 minute period was enough to give uni the killer blow in what was a fairly entertaining game.
-
-
Thanks to everyone who attended. It was great to see such a big crowd at oval number 1. We appreciate your support and gaurentee that our minor form slump will turn around sooner rather than later.

- Super League: Runde 7

Sydney Uni - Rockdale 0-0
-
-

- Super League: Runde 6 OPPDATERT!

-

-
-

Macarthur Rams - Sydney Uni 3-0

-

19:30, Lørdag 7 April, Lynwood Park.

-

Hoff's First Grade Match Report: Rams defeat Uni 3-0
Posted by hoff at Tue, 2007-04-10 16:53
-
The Macarthur Rams hosted title front runners, Sydney University, on a turbulent Saturday Night at Lynwood Park. The students came into the match on the back of an unprecedented 5 match winning streak and were confident they could get a result against the 2nd place Rams.
However, Macurther had other ideas and started the game strongly, grabbing the lead in the 8th minute.
-
Uni fought back well, and had Macurther on the rack for the majority of the first half. In fact, Uni were terribly unlucky not to score after a goal box scrap in which the ball was saved or cleared off the line no less than 3 times.
Not long after,Gavaghan broke down the right hand side sending a cross over for Demetriou whose header was saved by the keeper.
-
A clear handball decision in the Macurther box was also turned down by the referee despite the appeals of the Uni players.
Wiblen also had a long shot narrowly miss and it was beginning to seem that it just wasn't "the students'" day.

Macarthur limped to a one-nil half time lead with some of the players feeling the heat after some relentless Uni attacks.
-
-
In the second half, Uni started strongly again with Demetriou and O' O' O' O'Brien giving plenty of options for attack out wide.
Big Bob was brought on as a target man and was unlucky not to have earned a penalty after a clear shove in the back was turned down.
Still Uni could not break the deadlock, with Gavaghan again going close after another OBrien cross.
-
Macurther then doubled their lead when Uni lost the ball cheaply in their own half and the finish left no chance for the advancing Box Head (Anthony Costa).
-
With minutes remaining, and Uni pushing forward in an effort to salvage a result, Macarthur hit again on the counter attack and their player was brought down in the box. They converted the penalty to complete a three-nil win.

- Super League - Runde 5 OPPDATERT!

-

-
Sydney Uni - Fairfield City 3-0
-
-

Hoff's Match Report: Uni 3 Fairfield 0
Posted by hoff at Sun, 2007-04-01 21:58
-
Ace bags a Brace as Uni make it 5 in a row
Sydney Uni comfortably accounted for Fairfield last night 3-0 to extend their lead in the Winter Super League to 5 points.

-
The hero for the students was the electric metrosexual pin up boy Ace (Matt Demetriou) who converted a penalty and then clinically scored another to keep the home fans happy.
Earlier in the first half, it was Uni dominating possession and field position with Cheese (Peter Gavaghan), Ace and the Greyhound (John O'Brien) creating several opportunities. However, it wasn't until 30th minute when the Galapagas turtle's cross/shot found the net.
Uni went to the break one up...

-
Fairfield's coach could be heard yelling at his players inside the dressing shed at half time, and they started the second half pumped up. However, after weathering a minor storm, Uni was awarded a penalty and Ace calmly placed it to the right of the keeper.
Minutes later he had a second, when he rattled the net with an unstoppable shot after beating 2 defenders.

-
Uni did have opportunities to score more, and Fairfield had a penalty saved and then the follow up shot saved again by Box Head (Anthony Costa).

-
It was a good result for Uni - notching their 4th clean sheet of the season with The big German Unit (Stephan Bley) dominant again at the back. And with several players still carrying niggling injuries and with Mr Myspace (Jacob Swarts) unavailable through a virus (he had previously dedicated last nights game to Princess Lu Lu, who is number 12 on his myspace top friends list) things are looking positive for the club.

-
I'm fairly confident this is the first time uni has won 5 from 5 in the Winter Super League, and I'm pretty sure its the first time we have been at the top of the ladder. Well done boys!

- Super League: Runde 4

FC Liverpool - Sydney Uni 0-1
-
-
-
-
Kaptein Hoffs match report lyder som følger:
-
-
Sydney Uni continued their tremendous start to the winter super league with their 4th win in as many games against Liverpool Bossy FC.
-
Bossy, a fierce opponent in recent years, have been struggling so far this season and my sources say that the pressure was mounting on the players with the club expecting to take maximum points at Ernie Smith Reserve.
-
However, it was Uni's new recruit - the Big German Unit, who snared victory for the students with a polished finish inside the box after an Ace free kick.
It was the first time Uni had beaten Bossy in 5 attempts, and the win maintained their position at the top of the Super League ladder.
-
With First Grade Coach Glenn Lockhart on Australian Futsal duties, it was caretaker coach Michael Gaffney who was left with the responsiblity to lead the boys to victory.
-
The first half was a fairly even affair with both teams not playing their best football. Chances were still created at both ends of the paddock with Cheese and the Greyhound looking dangerous at times.
-
In the second half Uni made use of the wind and almost immediately opened the scoring with Choc Collins, aka the Marrickville Mauler, grazing the upright.
Bossy did look dangerous at times, with Hoolio clearing a ball off the line and also some sound keeping from boxhead and scrambling defence keeping Bossy at bay.
-
However, it was the Big German Unit, whose first goal in the blue and gold clinched it for Uni. He's been putting in some stellar performances lately and was justifiably rewarded with the goal.
-
-
Emil lover forøvrig at bloggene fra kampene fremover vil inkludere litt bilder etterhvert.

- Super League: Runde 3 OPPDATERT!

Sydney Uni - Mt. Druitt Town 3 - 1
-
-
-
-
Three on the Trot

A come from behind win in the top of the table clash against Mt Druitt, has left Sydney Uni alone at the top of the winter super league ladder. In a match that was billed as the match of the round, it was Uni who grabbed the 3 points with goals from Mr Myspace (Jacob Swarts), Cheese (Pete Gavaghan) and Snip (James Alcorn). However, once again, the hero for uni was Uni custodian Box Head (Anthony Costa) who made some incredible acrobatic saves.

In what was a relatively even affair in the first half it was Mt Druitt who were celebrating a 1 nil lead as the teams went into the sheds. It was the first time Uni had been behind all year, after conceeding their first goal in over 200 minutes of football, but it didn't deter them from making a spirited and rousing comeback in the second half.
-
Mr Myspace, scored an opportunist goal in the 51st minute after flicking up a ball from outside the box, beating two defenders in the process, and then unleashing an unstoppable volley into the top corner of the net ( or at least thats what he's been telling girls on Myspace).
Uni had the momentum, and with the introduction of Carney (Tom Corte) and Ace (Matt Demetriou), were looking dangerous. Cheese grabbed the second with some sublime skill when he jinked left, dummied, went right and his near post shot from the edge of the box ruffeled the net to the delight of the Uni faithful.

With time running out for Mt Druitt, they started to push more numbers forward in a bid to salvage a result leaving themselves open to the pace and skill of the Uni counter attack.
In the 89th minute the Greyhound (John O'Brien) used his pace to get around his opponent and cut a ball back into Ace inside the box. Ace then turned and layed an unmarked Sniparooney - who expertly finished much to the delight of his travelling flock of american fans in the crowd.
-
It was a polished second half display from uni, however Mt Druitt did have their chances to get back into the game. The result leaves the Students top of the table (first time ever) and face a traditionally tough Liverpool Bossy next week.

- Super League: Runde 2

St George Saints - Sydney Uni 0 - 1

I think the infamous phrase "it was a %#!& battle" just about summed up the game on Saturday night at St George stadium. With at least half a dozen players unavailable for the game, the depth of our squad stood firm, and collecting 3 points at St George is something that not many teams will do this year.

The game started with St George having most of the play but they found it difficult to break down some scrambling Uni defence. On the rare occasions they did, Anthony Costa (aka Box Head) was able to pull off some breathtaking saves.
At the other end of the pitch it was Mr Myspace and the greyhound who opened up their defence a couple of times and we were unlucky not to land a goal. Mr Myspace, then got pulled down in the box and Uni got a penalty. Up steps Miles Downey (Aka the joker - for his "great" jokes). The joker placed the ball to the keepers left, but it was parried and the scores remained deadlocked.

Choc, forgetting that last week's physio was not at the game, went down complaining of a groin injury. When he remembered that the physio replacing her was a guy, he complained that it was actually his ankle that was sore. Nonetheless, he tried running it off and although his top speed was still quicker than Tom Corte's (aka Carney), he was replaced. Snip replaced him and went on to have a whale of a game. Cassette Deck also picked up an ankle injury late in the half and he was replaced by Stefan.

With about 10 minutes left in the first half, St George applied a lot of pressure. Uni defended in numbers and were able to survive the half.
In the second half, Uni seemed a bit more composed on the ball and we were able to maintain more possession. Saints did look dangerous from set pieces but aside from that they did not really trouble Box Head.
Half way through the half Matty D (Ace) was brought on for the Joker who was carrying a niggling ankle injury after a knock last week.

The Greyhound and the Galapagas Turtle got a few crosses over and one could sense that something was building for Uni. Then in the 70th minute Stefan, sensing an opportunity, pinged a ball to the G-Hound who measured his cross. Ace was able to put away the loose ball in the box for his first of the season.

With all of the subs used and the Galapagas cramping up, and with Emil Hauge the Danish import carrying a knock, the last 10 minutes were long for Uni. However we tackled and battled our way through it for a hard fought victory, and have not been scored against in 180 minutes of football.

Well Done Boys.
I might add...that all these penalty misses are adding to the Team's Drinking Kitty.

- Super League: Runde 1

Stanmore Hawks - Sydney Uni 0 - 2

Sydney Uni travelled to Arlington Oval for a first round showdown with Stanmore Hawks on a warm and muggy Sunday night.

In first grade, Uni played some good football on what was a remarkably good Arlington Oval pitch. A soft back pass from Stanmore and some good anticipation from Jacob "Big Bob" Swartzanegga (aka Swartz) was enough for Uni to grab the lead.

Uni was dominating with Gavaghan, Collins and Swartzanegga running rings around their defence. Stanmore then had a man sent off for a straight red card after a vicious challenge on Collins. Uni went to the break 1-0 up.

Uni used the numerical advantage well to keep possession for long periods and to open up the Stanmore defence on several occasions. After a penalty miss and two further penalty calls turned down, we finally grabbed a second after Gavaghan put away a loose ball in the box.
A couple more chances went begging and one shot hit the bar, but Uni were able to hold on for a well deserved victory.

Everyone did their job, and V-bomber, Ace (assist for the second goal) and Greyhound added some extra legs and penetration when they came on.

Congratulations to Glenn Lockhart for a win in his debut game as First Grade coach.
